At 39 I still struggle with a negative body image and limiting ideas around what I can and can’t do. I built up the idea that Yoga wasn’t for me because I thought I I was too fat, too inexperienced, and too inflexible. Needless to say, I was fortunate to begin my first yoga journey with Janeen.

Working with her privately over Zoom has been transformative. Yoga has become something I look forward to and rely on to help me manage my stress and to start building a new relationship with my body.

Her emphasis on the individual nature of our practice, that the “right way” to do yoga is the way that feels good and right for me has allowed me to feel and be successful.

I’ve learned that so many of the limitations I’ve felt about my body were within my reach to address and overcome. I can already see how this learning has extended to other areas of my life and empowered me to seek and feel worthy of wellness. My only regret is not having found Janeen years ago.

My yoga practice with Janeen has taken me through so many life phases and changes. Being in great shape, recovering from a back and hip injury, grieving a loss, and now, pregnancy. Janeen has adjusted the practice to meet my needs at every turn. Having a practice I could rely on like that has given me so much confidence and a sense of trust in my body that I’ve never had before.

Showing up for yoga with Janeen is always rewarding, even on days when getting out of bed is difficult, either physically or emotionally. Maybe especially on those days.

Our one on one yoga sessions are helpful at every level. I have always struggled in yoga classes, and often felt like basic poses were beyond my abilities. I thought I just wasn’t built for yoga. But Janeen has made seemingly minor adjustments that have made all the difference. It wasn’t that I wasn’t built for yoga, I just needed to find the right way for my body to do it, and Janeen made that happen.

Working with Janeen has enabled me to tune in with my body and experience breath and asana more cohesively, as one movement. As a first-time mom in a new town in the midst of a pandemic, I was emotionally and physically rundown. A high-risk pregnancy, followed by a c-section and months of breastfeeding left me deconditioned, tight, and with chronic back pain. Home with the baby all the time, I struggled to take time for myself, and the pandemic made the thought of finding new activities even more daunting.

Janeen’s virtual classes give me a safe space to soothe my mind and body. I’ve always enjoyed yoga and find Janeen’s reflective, adaptive instruction to be incredibly engaging, including gentle cues for posture and alignment.
